Pros and Cons of Wireless Charging

Wireless phone charging is quite common these days. This technology has come a long way in creating a wide ecosystem for not just our smartphones but other different wireless charging devices. For a Wireless charging, a device uses an electromagnetic field to transfer energy between two objects. The energy is sent through an inductive coupling to an electrical device, which is further used to charge batteries or run the device.

The wireless charging can be used not for the public businesses but also at homes. Although it has many benefits, it has its other side as well. So, before planning to switch to wireless charging, it would be worthwhile to be aware of its pros and cons:

Pros of Wireless Charging:

  1. Protects connections

There is no any deterioration due to enclosed electronics so no exposure to water and oxygen which ultimately results in less risk of electrical faults such as short circuits due to insulation failure, especially during the frequent plugging/unplugging.

  1. Multiple Devices Charging

Pros and Cons of Wireless Charging

Every individual owns one or two devices of their own. Today, there may be several smartphones in the same room. Most often the chargers of the smartphones are same, but when it comes to Apple and Android phones there is still a difference. With wireless charging pad, you can allow the devices to charge simultaneously whether it is smartphones or devices like tablets, laptops, etc. With this, you can reduce the number of cables and power consumption at your home.

  1. Low infection risk

The power transmission through magnetic field passes through the skin safely, avoiding the damages or infection risks associated with wires penetrating the skin.

  1. Enhanced durability

With less frequent plugging and unplugging, there is significantly less wear and tear on both the device cable and the sockets because of which it tends to last for a long period of time.

  1. Convenience

One of the main pros of having wireless charging is that you will need no more cables leaving behind you dealing with messy cords and so it makes your life much simpler.

Cons of Wireless Charging:

  1. Slower charging

Because of its lower efficiency, the devices take a very long period of time to charge even though it is supplied with the same amount of power.

  1. Expensive

Pros and Cons of Wireless Charging

Wireless charging requires drive electronics and coils in both the device and charger which increases the manufacturing cost and complexity.

  1. Added inconvenience

Although the signals transmitted between the mobile phone and charger are wireless, it still needs to be left on a charging pad by limiting its usability.

Though the wireless charging has its own benefits, we must keep in mind that it is still not perfect. It has its own drawbacks which the users must consider before they set their mind to use it.
