Pros and Cons of 5G (5th Generation)

5G is the newest wireless network around the world. Globally there is always a growing need for faster and more efficient wireless networks. Henceforth, the 5G or 5th generation network comes into play. It is the global wireless networking standard developed after its predecessors 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. 5th generation network enables people a more dynamic network of devices that can work together in all machines or devices which can be interconnected to a wireless network. So what do the Pros and Cons of 5G has to say we will learn about that here.

5th generation mobile technology was principally developed to increase the performance of mobile networking compared to the existing one. 5G was first introduced in 2018 by Verizon and as a result, many devices which could support the 5th generation mobile network were developed soon after. South Korea was the first country to implement a 5G network and many countries followed soon after.

Those people who want to have services of 5th generation network must-have device which support 5G and also their network provider must be able to provide the service.

Since we know about 5G let us know about the Pros and Cons of 5G.

Pros of 5G:

1. Increased performance in speed and efficiency:

The 5th generation network is faster than 4G and by a very large margin. In addition to speed, the efficiency is also increased. The bandwidth is also increased compared to its predecessors. Therefore data rates can shoot up to 20 Gbps.

2. Powerful capacity of network:

The 5th generation network is about 1000x more powerful than 4G. Hence, it can support large-scale IoT development. In addition to that, it can be used as the base for smart cities, farms, and homes. With its capacity, it can support thousands of devices at any given time.

3. Uninterrupted, Consistent and Uniform connectivity:

You are now able to use the network without any interruption and with a consistent uniform connection. This helps in increase in work efficiency and productivity anywhere in the globe.

4. Latency is at a minimum:

As latency is low the power of 5G is enhanced. Because of this the application running in the network will be faster and also support a wide variation of a new application.

Cons of 5G:

1. Does not work with old devices:

For the 5G mobile network, we need new devices which actually support it. All previous devices are not able to support them. As a result, new users have to replace their devices with new ones with are a tad bit expensive.

2. Replacing previous devices will be very expensive:

Since 5G networks need new devices which support the 5G technology. Due to this main reason replacing all the older devices can take time and also cost of replacing those devices and adding new infrastructures can take a lot of funds making it expensive.

3. Hard on devices:

Those devices which do support a 5th generation network must have a very high battery capacity reason being 5G takes a very big toll on a smartphone battery. Connecting and running on 5G takes more power consequently overheating the devices.

Final Verdict:

The use of 5th generation networks around the world is increasing and network providers and smartphone manufacturers are trying to maintain the speed of transitions to the new network. 5G companies are developing 5G Wi-Fi and companies like Apple, Samsung, Huawei and others have introduced new models which support 5G. So it is fair to say that the future of the mobile network is here at our doorsteps and it will replace the previous network sooner or later. So, these are the Pros and Cons of 5G.
