K 12 is the common education system in Europe, Asia, South America and some parts of Africa. In this program, a student covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education i.e. six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School.  This system has its own pros and cons.

Let’s look at some of the pros and cons of K12.

Pros of K12

  1. Learn to Socialize

For young children, school is the best place to socialize with other people. The educators function as role models that have positive influence among the children. A person who doesn’t socialize with other people may have to face difficulties when trying to fit in at work or in societies later in life.

  1. Promotes easy understanding

As K12 breaks the education system down into various stages of learning, the students can easily catch up with the studies and under all the things properly as they grow up with each stage up of education.

  1. Propitious learning environment

K12 system of education creates a favorable learning environment as it is divided into different stages that hold like-minded children.

  1. Teaches Respect

With K12 education system a student learns to be self-disciplined and respect others. This will help students to easily adapt in the workplace and in other aspects of adult life. Respecting other is quite important to become successful as a working adult.

  1. Acquire Knowledge

Gaining knowledge is another important part of education. General knowledge about history, geography, science or literature can be useful in life sometimes. There is no limit in gaining knowledge and one can keep learning new things throughout their entire life.

Cons of K 12

  1. Lengthy process

The K12 education system makes the students stay in school for more than thirteen years before they can join the traditional university.  Thus, it is a long and tiresome process for students.

  1. Repetition of classes

K12 education system grades students according to their performance in class and exams. In case a student fails to pass qualifying exams, s/he must repeat the same class.

  1. Costly for parents

As K12 is lengthy and requires students to stay in school for several years, it can be quite costly for some parents.

  1. Monotonous

Children following K12 education system must stay in a class for 8-9 hour for rest 13 years which can be quite hectic and boring.
